The every-body street film
|
Joel MeyerowitzIn this image by Joel Meyerowitz a man is walking
across a center of of a city with his dog in his arms . The image is in black and white which gives it more of a vintage/retro theme .Some people find black and white photos sad because they lack bright colours but I find them more interesting as there are not many photos like that today. The image has only one person featuring in it the rest of the image shows an empty reseted street. I would imagine that the photographer was standing near the road on the street when he captured the image as it shows all of the detail of the other side of the street .The photographer was most likely standing still while the photograph was taken as it is not blurred at all.I would describe the image as a walk on by image as the man is half walking when the image was captured. I think that if I could as the photographer two questions i would ask : What year was this photo taken ? it has a different theme to the photos taken these days . Where were you positioned when this was taken ? |
What I learned from the everybody street
How do street photographers behave ? The street photographers work quickly to create photographs that are in the moment and freeze time so people can see the street in detail as it is nearly always moving quickly and you cannot notice all the details of the street. .What equipment do they use ? The equipment that photographers use are SLRs however most of them use silent rangefinder cameras (leica) .What kind of subjects are they interested in ? Street photographers are interested in anything that occurs in the street some of them feel the need to document what is on the street others feel like they want to take pictures of the chaos street photographers study peoples behaviour on the street. Why do they like photographing on the street ? I think they like photographing on the street because everything is unexpected you can never anticipate what you will capture that day and what you will experience and capture i think a lot of photographers feel they experience more of the world like this. What are the risks involved ? There are many risks involved in street photography many of the photographers .They may get depressed after constantly seeing the effects of drugs and gang violence they may be attacked or beaten up they may also be stopped by the police for being in areas were criminal activity happens. What makes a successful street photograph ? A successful street photograph should capture real life on the street .A picture should capture peoples behaviour it should also cover all areas of the street because it proves that the artist has experienced everything even when it is very upsetting. What was the task ?
The task was to create photos from particular themes i.e shadows and reflections ,cropping,,walk on by,We had to capture the images without planning and be in the moment. Would you say this is still street photography ? I would say that this is street photography because I took these photographs unplanned it was capturing the moment. If i had not been quick enough i probably would not have captured these images. What do your photographs feature ? My photographs mainly feature the back ground and some thing happening in the center which is mainly in focus . What is the composition like ? The composition has either a person in the foreground and their shadow in the background .Some of my photographs have the background and a person part of the background. |
