In my opinion should show his intention in a photograph is by focusing on certain points in the photo. They must focus on the points that they feel express their intention the most because they are the most important parts of the photograph to the photographer. For example in this photograph we can see a man on a stool selling fruit it looks as though he might be living in a poorer country because there is no proper till for him and no cash register.I think the photographer might have wanted to depict life in another country and how people have to make a living I can only infer this though because of what the photographer has included and drawn detail to in the photograph. That is why to me what the photographer focuses on in the way to show his/her intention.
I think that a good photographer can tell the audience something that words cannot through the theme of the photograph,What I mean by this is the colour scheme ,the people in the picture, what the people are wearing etc.In this photograph I can see a just married couple in a field it looks like a storm is going to begin as the man has an umbarella and is protecting the woman. I was not told this when I looked at the photograph but the photographer has managed to send this message to me with-out using words . They have done this successfully by the type of people in the photograph (man and wife) the clothes they are wearing (wedding dress and suit) and the colour of the photo -black and white which creates a gloomy atmosphere. These are strategies to send a message to the audience without words.
A good photograph can engage the viewers attention by using certain techniques to capture the viewers eye.One of these techniques are pop of colour because it stands out vividly .The photo next to this piece of text caught my eye because it had all white flowers round it and then a pop of red that stands out it is shocking but pleasing because it shows something different to the rest of the photo.Another way a good photographer can engage the audience is through showing images of eccentric people doing things out of the ordinary .This again draws you in as it shows something different that stands out.Techniques like this engage audiences all the time.
How can a good photograph make a person feel empathy or sadness? A good photograph can make a person feel sadness by using colour .In this photograph it is all black and white .No colour gives a sad impression because bright colours usually mean happiness.A photo without colour suggests the lack of life and happiness.Another way a photograph can make a person feel sadness is what the person in the photograph is doing .For example in this photograph the man is sitting in a position that suggests he has given up and feels defeated. What the person in the photograph looks to be feeling can often seep into the viewer and make them feel the same (sad) or feel sorry for the person (empathy)
To me it depends on what the message is that the artist wants to make the viewer feel as to weather or not photos should be shown individually.Often a collage of photos makes a photograph seem a lot more interesting as it creates different shapes and dimensions. Also if photographs are meant to depict moments from a person dies I think it sends a powerful message as it shows the persons life before they died. However if you are focusing on the meaning of an individual photograph then it is not good to present it with other photographs as it detracts from the meaning of an individual photograph.Over all to me it depends on the meaning the artist wants to present to the audience .
I definitely think that a photograph can make a viewer ask questions especially if it is a particularly shocking image . It can make you think for a long time and question things about a photograph. For me the questions I normally think of while looking at a picture are : Who are the people ? Were the people safe in the situation they were in ? What angle was the artist perched at while capturing the image? Was this a planned photo or an in the moment one ?
I think that lighting is very important in a photo as it can make different shadows and even change the way people look .It can hide certain parts of a photo in the shadows and bring certain parts of the photo into light giving it a completely different message to the viewer .I think composition is also very important as it shows the different positions of objects in a photograph. It is important to think through the composition of a image before you take it as it portrays what is in the foreground and the background.Often what is seen in an image (lighting) and where it is seen (composition) can influence what people think the message is of a image is because what is in the foreground is usually what is focused upon the most. That is why light and composition and lighting is so important in making a good photograph.
I think the 4 most important elements in photography are : Lighting - controls what is seen in an image
Background-controls the atmosphere of an image i.e : dark background gives of a feeling of sadness.
Focus-Weather parts of a image is out of focus or in focus can make a viewer see the just certain parts of an image and not the rest, Position of photographer- For example a point of view shot can show you the photographer was in the middle of the action experiencing every-thing.And a bird view shot can show the perspective from above -removed yet observing every-thing.
